BYOB Adults Handbuilding

Every Thursday 6pm!

£25 - 2 Hour Session

room capacity: 12 ppl

How Does it Work?

Step 1

Firstly, our lovely host will greet you and get you or your group set up in our designated pottery room.

We provide glasses and prosecco flutes if you are bringing your own alcoholic or non alcoholic drinks, or you are welcome to purchase a coffee, tea or soft drink from our cafe area before you head into your session.

Each person will be given two balls of white stoneware clay. You then choose up to 3 underglaze paints from our vast collection of colours and you’ll be able to check out physical examples of what can be created!

Step 2

Once you are seated and set up with all of your tools and clay (and drink of choice) you can have a look through our step by step guide. The first page consists of inspiring pot ideas to get your creative brain started. You will then start to learn the process of how to make your initial basic shape from the two balls of clay. From there you can choose to make one of many different creative forms; a mug, plant pot, vase, jug, butter dish, oil burner or even a salt pig. There are lots of tips through out and the host will be on hand to help with any questions. We also have decorating information, painting techniques and a splatter station if you fancy getting free with your paint application. There is also a selection of tools, stamps and rollers that you’ll be able to help yourself to.

Step 3

Once you have finished your masterpiece, you need to make sure you have filled out your information sheet - this helps us keep track of everyone’s work. Then you can come back in 6 weeks time to collect your pots! It’s always helpful to take photos of your pieces for collection. If you’d rather have it posted to you, then let us know and we can get that organised for you at the till for a small fee. If you are coming back to glaze your piece, please allow for 4 weeks from your first session before booking on; this allows enough time for your pieces to be fully dry and bisque fired. Please bear in mind, we keep pots for up to 3 months maximum.

What happens to your pots?

First off, we leave your pots for 24 hours (making sure to write your name and date underneath). Your pots will then need to be bone dry before we can do any firing, and this can be a wait of anywhere between 1-3 weeks depending on how thick your piece is. Then, once ready, your babies will go into the kiln and get fired up to 1000 degrees - this is called a bisque firing. We then dip your pots in a transparent glaze which makes your pot food safe, easy to clean and with a shiny finish. Then we do the final kiln firing at 1220 degrees, and your lovely work is ready to go!
